Submission Guidelines

Writing

What We Publish:

Original works, i.e. first-ever publication. Please note that we cannot run a piece that has already appeared on the web or elsewhere in print. However, while we do ask for first-publication rights, following 90 days from the publishing date, the rights are restored back to you—meaning the piece can be posted and/or published anywhere else from that point on.

If your piece is accepted, it will be run past our editors before publishing, but please be sure to polish work before submitting.

What We Don’t Publish:

Absolutely no material generated by artificial intelligence or machine learning should be submitted. Because we aim to publish distinguished work, please refrain from sending us any writing containing chronically online speak (A.K.A. TikTok and “brain rot” language). We also will not accept long-form works typed in all lowercase as an aesthetic decision. However, lowercase formatting as a stylistic choice in poetry is fine.

Simultaneous Submissions:

Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please do not duplicate material. We also ask that you let us know if your submission is accepted elsewhere.

Formatting:

All writing should be submitted in PDF or doc format, with 12-point type, and at least one-inch margins. Both Nonfiction and Fiction submissions should be double spaced, and poetry should be single spaced. Authors should also include their preferred publishing name and email address at the top of the first page.

How to Send Us Your Work:

Submit your work to us via this Google Form (reminder that only PDF or doc files are accepted).

Response Time:

Once submissions are closed, please allow up to two weeks for us to view your work.

Word Count:

Creative Nonfiction & Short Fiction: No more than 2,000 words.

Cultural Criticisms & Articles: No more than 1,000 words.

Poetry: May contain up to five poems, all contained in a single file. We accept submissions of all poetic forms and genres, with the exception of translations.

Limericks: Must be no more than five lines in length. The first, second, and fifth lines MUST rhyme with one another and contain five feet of three syllables each. Any submissions not following these guidelines will automatically be denied and also we will find out where you live

Haikus: First and third lines must be exactly five syllables in length and the middle line at precisely seven syllables. Any submissions not following these guidelines will automatically be denied and also we will kill you

Art

Eligibility:

Superfan’s call for art is open to any and all artists. No restrictions on style or medium (traditional, digital, photography, sculpting, collage, etc).

What We Publish:

Superfan only publishes original art (it must not appear in any other publication). We do not accept art generated by artificial intelligence.

How to Send Us Your Work:

Submit your work to us via this Google Form (reminder that only jpg or png files are accepted).

Response Time:

Once submissions are closed, please allow up to two weeks for us to view your work.

Simultaneous Submissions:

Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please DO NOT duplicate material. Up to 10 unique pieces are allowed per artist. We also ask that you let us know if your submission is accepted elsewhere.

File Specifications:

Submissions should be high quality. 300+ dpi files are required in order to be considered. Please make sure the file name matches the title of your piece.

Note:

As Superfan is starting out, we do not currently have the means to monetarily compensate for submissions. We don’t know what the future will look like in terms of profitability, but we’re 100% open to the idea of being able to support artists monetarily once the magazine gains more traction.
